How to Use This Crypto Profit & Loss Calculator

Enter the name of each cryptocurrency you hold, the amount you invested (total cost basis), the number of coins/tokens you own, and the current price per coin. Hit "Calculate Portfolio P&L" to instantly see your total profit or loss, return on investment (ROI), and a full breakdown for each asset. You can add as many coins as you like.

The results include a visual portfolio bar showing each asset's share of your total investment, per-coin performance, and an overall summary with your net gain or loss in both dollar and percentage terms.

Why This Matters

Crypto markets move fast — sometimes 10%, 20%, or even 50% in a single day. Without a clear picture of your cost basis versus current value, it's easy to make emotional decisions based on price charts rather than actual performance. A proper P&L view forces clarity.

Say you bought 0.5 BTC for $15,000 back in 2022, added 50 ETH at $1,200 each ($60,000 total), and picked up 10,000 ADA at $0.30 ($3,000). If BTC is now at $65,000, ETH at $3,400, and ADA at $0.45, your portfolio has grown from $78,000 to $205,500 — a gain of $127,500 (+163%). But you'd never know which coin is dragging down the portfolio without breaking it apart. ETH might be your biggest winner; ADA might barely be breaking even.

This calculator is useful for tax season (understanding your unrealized gains), for rebalancing decisions, and simply for staying grounded when fear or greed kicks in during volatile markets. Long-term investors, day traders, and DeFi enthusiasts all benefit from knowing exactly where they stand.

How It's Calculated

The core formulas are straightforward:

Current Value = Coins Held × Current Price Per Coin
Profit / Loss ($) = Current Value − Total Amount Invested
ROI (%) = ((Current Value − Amount Invested) ÷ Amount Invested) × 100

Portfolio totals are simple sums across all holdings. The allocation bar shows each asset's share of your total invested amount, so you can see where your capital is concentrated. The gain/loss percentage is calculated per asset, giving you a clear ranking of your best and worst performers.

Tips & Common Mistakes

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this calculator account for trading fees?

Not automatically — but you can include fees in your "Total Amount Invested" figure. For example, if you spent $1,000 on crypto and paid $15 in fees, enter $1,015 as your invested amount. This gives you an accurate cost basis and a more realistic P&L figure.

What's the difference between realized and unrealized P&L?

Unrealized P&L is what this calculator shows — the gain or loss based on current market prices for coins you still hold. Realized P&L only comes into play when you actually sell. Until you sell, the numbers are paper profits or losses and can swing wildly.

How do I calculate P&L if I bought the same coin multiple times at different prices?

Add up your total investment across all purchases and enter the combined total in the "Amount Invested" field. For "Coins Held," enter the total number of tokens across all purchases. This gives you your blended average cost basis, which is the most common method used for tax purposes.

Can I use this for NFTs or DeFi tokens?

Yes — any asset with a quantity and a current price works with this calculator. Enter the number of tokens (or NFTs at a floor price) you hold, the current price, and your original investment. It works for any digital asset where you can assign a dollar value per unit.
